I made a little drink table for a friend. Its MDF painted black and on the table top I placed a decal that I printed from my computer. Since the table will be used for food and drink, I want to protect the table top and decal. I was thinking about using some spray poly, but was unsure if it would cause the colors to run or have any other unexpected negative reaction. Of course, I plan to do a test run, but figured I would ask here if someone had any suggestions. Thanks.

the latest woodsmith has an article about this. They used a 2 part epoxy resin for doing that. They said to make sure that the article is glued to the table though to prevent slippage.
