Topic tags/keywords: gift idea gift ideas gifts question

Hi All,
There are a few gift giving events coming up and I would like to surprise my husband with woodworking related tools. However, I lack even the most basic knowledge of the trade to be successful giving wood working tools. If you can share ideas and brands you would like to get as a gift, that would be helpful and much appreciated. He loves this site and admires the work of people who post so if anyone is going to have a great idea, it would be you Lumberjocks. :)

Here is a bit of background on my husband’s shop today:

He has a table saw he loves, router, cabinet door router bits, an attachment for his table saw that helps him cut corners perfectly (a picture frame type of corner), a tool/attachment for mortice/tenon joints, and a biscuit joiner, clamps galore. He also has a miter saw he says is small for most projects (the blame is too small); so replacement ideas are fair game.

Future projects on his list include:
Kid’s table and chairs (in progress)
Play house for our kiddo
Pantry Cabinets
Kitchen Cabinet Doors

I was thinking of a wood burning pen/kit for him to dedicate and initial his projects (especially the kiddo ones). Is that still how woodworkers mark their work? I pulled that from a memory of my Grandpa- a man who was a High School shop teacher many, many years ago so it may be a bit dated.

Thanks for your time.

Instead of a burning pen he might like a branding iron. Stores like Woodcraft could set you up with that. It might have a graphic outline with something like “Custom Handmade by Lumnerjock’s Name”.

If he does not have any hand planes he would probably like a block plane. Top line tools would be Lie Nielsen and Veritas.

You mentioned he has a Tenon attachment, I assume for the table saw. He may need a set of Mortise chisels.
I would love a set of Narex mortise chisels, or if I hit the lottery a set of Lie Nielsen Chisels.

I don’t know your location so I’m not sure what woodworking stores you may be near, but one of my sons got me a gift card to Highland Woodworking which I really appreciated. They sell all the top brands and publish a lot of instructional videos etc. They let you use the gift card with internet purchases.

Check out StevinMarin’s advice here
I love the ‘wood’ suggestion. I know I would love to get a gift of exotic woods! Welcome to Lumberjocks!

Gift cards to his favorite wood places would be my suggestion.
