Hello all,

My wife and I are going to be jumping into the craft show business next Spring, starting out slow to see how things go at shows that are close to home (Western NY-North Western PA). If we do enough business to cover our costs and make a few dollars that would be great. If not, we won’t have all that much invested. Our primary items for sale will be cutting boards, cheese boards, keepsake boxes, bottle stoppers, Bird houses and feeders and maybe another couple of items. For those of you who do craft shows, how much inventory should we have on hand? I know that each show is a crap shoot. Some shows we might sell well while others not so much but we certainly don’t want to start out with not enough inventory on hand to get through the show. This fall we went to a few shows locally and talked to venders about a variety of subjects on starting out but when we asked about inventory they didn’t provide much help. We also have been asked to become a vender at a local farmers market but we are somewhat reluctant because they want their venders to commit to every Friday from Memorial day to Labor day. If we didn’t sell well there, the commitment wouldn’t be worth it. Any help and opinions from those that work the craft shows would be greatly appreciated.

Never done one myself… best of luck!

Here’s a good video I watched a while ago that was worth a bookmark for me in case I ever have enough time to be doing the shows (after kids):

Be warned, it’s almost 2 hours long!

The only thing I might add is to have some nicely done business cards. The sale might not happen the day of the show but later on – you would hate to have someone forget your business name or how to get in touch with you. Good Luck!
