Topic tags/keywords: hvlp training sprayer chicago finishing spray gun question resource

I have just purchased the earlex hvlp sprayer and I’ve used it enough to know I could use some training before blowing through a bunch of finish. I’d like to learn how to spray finishes, paint, etc. This is not a negative on the Earlex, it looks good and straightforward but rather lack of confidence in my skills and how long it will take to get good (and how many projects I may ruin along the way) ;)

Anyway, is there anyone that knows of training in the chicago, IL area that would cover this?

I would try contacting your finish supplier a good supplier should be able to help. Mine has offers training for free on all their products.

The local Woodcraft store here in St. Louis has quarterly spray finishing classes. Check to see if your local Woodcraft (or Rockler) would have any. If not talk to the manager and ask for one.

Jeff Jewitt’s Spray Finishing Made Simple book and DVD should cover everything you may need to know.
That and practice. Those two are what got me spraying finishes decently.

Hey T

I’m in same situation with looking for a course in Chicago. Haven’t bought yet, would like to get some hands on first. Did you find anything?

I told Tim this directly but maybe everyone could benefit.
You might call your local Woodcraft store to see if they offer classes in your area. I do know that one of our customers from Illinois drove to a class in Easthampton, MA for a one day HVLP class at “the workbench” woodworking & craft school and was very pleased with it. The school can be reached at 413-527-6103 or
