Topic tags/keywords: question maple walnut acrylic lacquer finish

A coworker asked me to make a Winnie the Pooh sign for her daughter’s birthday party. Since it will eventually sit in her daughter’s room I made it out of walnut and maple with hand painted, multi-surface acrylic paint for the letters:

Now that I’m to the finishing stage, I’m a little unsure how to approach it. My original thought was a few coats aerosol lacquer but I’m a little worried about sanding between coats and messing up the letters.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or prior experience with something like this? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Lacquer should be fine but I would do a test on a scrap piece of wood first with the same paint with lacquer over it.

Thanks Jim! I’m gong to give that a try tonight. I’m guessing a couple light coats with a very light sanding in between should do it.

David if your spraying the lacquer you shouldn’t need to sand between coats.
