Topic tags/keywords: question

I picked up about 25 boards the other day in a fantastic Craig’s List find. Problem is, I can’t ID wood to save my life. I’m hoping some more knowledgeable jocks can help? I believe that the haul may have included oak, cherry, walnut, sassafras, and maple – but I don’t know for sure.

Fair warning, there are a LOT of boards here. I tried to eliminate doubles of the same board, but it is possible I overlooked a few. I labeled all the boards with letters to make references a little easier. (These pictures don’t include 4 additional oak boards that I was able to ID – one of them 8/4, 20” x 8’!)

Thanks for any help!

Thanks guys! I’ll tick them off my list. Which letters are cherry?

Got the entire haul for $120 :-).

Edit: I really do appreciate the help. My wood identification skills are limited to pine, cedar, walnut, and “yup, that’s wood all right.”

Good price. I think everything else aside from what I mentioned are cherry; M can be anything, but looks like cherry.

B F G H L From what looks like a brownish color in the photo these could be english walnut. I have english walnut that is light brown and lots of sapwood. If the color is more reddish, then probably Cherry.

L N Q R T U Pretty sure it’s cherry.

P S Poplar if its greenish. Even if its chocolate brown, if you plane it a bit, the brown will be green where it hasn’t been exposed to light.

Those are my best guesses. Great find and great price! Congrats
