Can someone explain plywood grades to me?

From what I see there seems to be ABC and D grades of plywood. But then I also see AB and BC and B/BB. And then some have numbers 1-4 also? A1, C2 etc… I tried googling this but didn’t find any definitive answers.

The grading system tells you the quality of the materials and how if one or both sides are smooth.

-- Mother Nature created it, I just assemble it.

There are different grading rules that apply to hardwood plywood, softwood plywood, import plywood, and domestic plywood. For the most part, the site that Dan gave you is a pretty good read.
