What’s up LJ’s, is it just me or has the price of wood, particularly bowl blanks gone out of the roof? I took a break for a while and am getting back in the swing of things and I am shocked at some of the prices I am seeing blanks go for. Did I miss the boat? Did everybody else get rich off there woodwork while I was out and become able to pay these higher prices? What did I miss?

I haven’t been able to afford a bowl blank in years. At least you’re in a state that has trees, so there’s always a chance you can stumble on some freebies.

What bowl blanks? Mine are free. Where do you go to buy bowl blanks?? I thought you just cut a log in half lengthwise and use one half for the blank.
I do go to stores that sell wood and it is really expensive for exotics. I usually don’t buy any- just like to look. but If you buy a thick piece to make a bowl, I can see it being $15 and up per board foot!........Jim

I see this question all the time. With bowls blanks all the wood turners I know get it free from tree trimmers.Never met a wood turner ready to spend good money on lumber. With lumber easy answer cost of production business etc never gets cheaper.

Isn’t a ‘bowl blank’ just a block of solid wood or laminated wood?
