I’m looking for a source for figured hardwoods, not necessarily maple. Something to add as an accent piece to a plane I’m making. Thanks.

It might help if you mention a region, city or some type of location that may be close to you. There are enough LJ’s all over that may be able to suggest a good dealer from experience that may be local to you where you may be able to drive to and physically pick out some wood.
I think there is a website called woodfinder that may be able to id a local dealer for you too.

There is a hardwood supplier i use religiously, but the only figured woods they offer is maple. I believe it’s the only one around.

Have you tried Bell Forest Products? I believe they stock some figured lumber and you can actually pick the exact piece.

Lmao. I like curtis, but I’m looking for figured woods. There figured maple selection is pretty good. But they only offer it in 4/4 anyways. I wish they’d stock for 8/4 stuff, at least stock 8/4 of all the hardwood they sell, not just some.

But if they stocked what you wanted, then they would sell it. Then they’d have to go through all the trouble of restocking it!

True. I have no gripes with them really. If the people who saw their lumber also dry it, they should get a different supplier. Almost all the lumber there ends up moving and or twisting. Luckily i can always get around it.

Sorry, you made me chuckle. You just said I have no gripes using their wet twisted lumber. I couldn’t resist. I still stop everytime I go by. They’re about the only game within …... Who knows how many miles!

How big a piece are you looking for and what species do you want? I have a bunch of different hardwoods in varying dimensions, and I’m all of maybe 10 minutes from you lol.
