Topic tags/keywords: dust collector wynn filter dust leaks question

I am modifying my Harbor Freight 2hp dust collector (dc). I have dust leaks from where the Wynn nano filter attaches in place of the top bag, and dust comes out from around where the bottom plastic bag attaches. I would like to use MDF to form rings that will better seal the Wynn filter and to replace the plastic bag with a ridged container (trash can).

I would like to be able to disassemble the unit.

Internet research indicates that weather stripping is the preferred method to seal the joint (wynn to mdf, mdf to dc ring, dc ring to trash can). I am wondering if it matters if it is on the outside of the ring, the bottom of the ring, or the inside. In the following drawing, would you place the weather stripping along surface A, B or C?

I plan to use 1/4-20 threaded rod to hold everything together.

I placed my weather stripping at “Position B”. Seems to work for me.

ClearVue has a booklet on line that you can down load. It is for their unit but they all work the same. They use silicone and Dap A-Flex I think.

Have your say...
