That hole on the far end has me scratching my head. Almost like this was made to pivot on a pin and swing the blade into something. It really reminds me of an anti-kickback pawl on a table saw. I’m stymied. -- Use the fence Luke |

I’ve seen a similar tool that is used to cut out pieces of hardwood flooring for replacement. My second guess is that it’s a haggis splitter. -- Randy, Rustic Artisan, a family tradition. (No PM's - auto-deleted.) - "I am a seeker, not a follower." |

I was told by Roy Underhill of the ``woodwright show`` that it looks like an old industrial can opener and with the hole on the end is part of the opener that is missing -- --<<<<<< I will not stop until I get it right. >>>>>>-- |

It don’t look like any old butchering/castrating tools I’ve ever seen. The can opener idea seems curious – but the old ones with that overall shape had more hook in the blade. I can’t get a clear idea on scale. How long is this thing? Speculation here: If the blade pivots then it looks like the blade slipped to the backside of the material then the handle was raised to force the material into the blade. If it don’t pivot then notice the hole in the end – it looks like the whole thing was attached via a pin and was pivoted down into the material. -- Wonderful new things are coming! - God |
