Topic tags/keywords: question

I’m trying to find some pictures/plans/ideas for building two or three end tables/side tables incorporating DVD storage drawers. I don’t know the official style of our current living room decor; I tend to think of it as “generically attractive and cost-effective Costco furniture.” For example, our entertainment cabinet looks somethng like this:

I made a few pieces that more or less match our living room set; these were early projects using mostly scrap wood, but they further illustrate the style I’ll be matching:

The end tables will be something like 2’-3’ wide/long (our couches are big so I can be flexible on size), and I’d like each end table to store as many DVDs as possible in sliding drawers. I’m hoping to make these pieces better quality than the projects above, and I’m fine with using contrasting colors if the style matches (I have a large stock of maple I’d like to put to use here).

Can anyone link to/provide pictures (or better yet, plans) for some sample projects I could use as a jump-off point, that approximately match the pictures provided? Thanks!

I suppose first thing to do is to determine whether you want the DVD’s to stack up or stand side by side. After that measure the size of a DVD to determine how wide/tall the compartments/Drawers need to be. In place of drawers, I would use either drawer like doors for each shelf or one single door that when opened, exposes the sheves.
Hope that will get you started.

I’m planning on putting the DVDs in so that the spine is facing up (I think that’s what you meant by side-by-side?). I’m leaning towards drawers because each drawer would pull out to reveal several rows of DVDs. Does that make sense?
