there is a performax 16-32 drum sander listed on craigslist for $450 which includes infeed/outfeed tables, mobile base and extra rolls of sandpaper..seller says this is a 1hp motor, hardly used and purchased new in 1999..would this sander be a good buy or one to stay away from as it is an older model??

What do you expect a drum sander to do for you?

Stay away….far away!
I bought one in ‘99 and had a lot of trouble keeping the arm parallel. In addition, the carrier belt began to delaminate and the knob that adjusted the belt speed just disintegrated.
I was able to sell it a few years ago and it brought $250.
I really needed a sander to flatten wide boards for face to face gluing and other chores, so I bought the “V” sander kit from Stockroom supply. No more hassles and I would highly recommend it.

No personal experience, but I was under the impression the 22/44 machine was the one to stay away from. Don’t recall any negative reviews of the 18/36.

Consider a stroke sander.
