Topic tags/keywords: tiger maple figured black walnut quilted maple lathe turning moon

I finally found my camara cord so I can download my pictures to the computer of work I have done in the past.

Here is the niceist one I made yet. I call it “The Light and Dark side of the Moon”

The Dark Side

I glued together figured Black Walnut and Tiger Maple of equll halfs
The bottom is Quilted Maple and I put food dye of Blue and Green and sanded it down to look like clouds on the earth from the moon in space. (Of course the blue is water and Green is land).

The Light Side

Picture of the bottom of earth (Quilted Maple)

I hope you enjoy this. All the turnings I am doing I will be selling at an Art show so I can Start my Woodworking Shop Club for regualar, handicapped, PTSD individuals. I told Cindy Dorosa a LJ how I want to encourage handicapped individuals that they CAN Turn or do woodworking.

Enjoy
Arlin

That is some absolutely amazing grain Arlin.
I have a couple of pieces with some nice grain patterns that I want to turn one day.
At the moment though, my confidence in my abilities just is not up there enough to chance ruining such beautiful pieces of nature.
This is some stunning work, just as I always see when I see what you’ve done.

That is beautiful Arlin. Love the grain and the way you did the colors. Great title for this piece as well.

Lovely work and good idea to give it a name “The Light and Dark Side of the Moon” as it is truly art.

My Daughter just looked at the piece and she said the Black Walnut side looked like a horses mane. I had to agree with her. Looks like a horse that is running in the wind.
