Got an idea here…. I know we have a thread going on about the CL crap/goofy deals. And reading through the thread is good for lots of laughs!!

But how about a thread on CL WW tools or materials that are good deals. Heck I’m always looking and sometimes spot stuff that I don’t necessarily need, or want. But I sometimes do see stuff someone here on LJ might be interested in.

What say you??

I bought my Fore Plane, table saw, Shop Fox Classic Fence, Bandsaw, and Miter Saw on CL, so I think good deals are to be had there.

Couple months ago I bought a Unisaw off CL… paid $500 for it, and it was only about 2 miles from me. All it needed other than some minor clean up was a set of belts. Great deal IMO.

Found my Dewalt 735 planer on CL. Bought it on Thanksgiving morning no less. Called the guy the night before, told him “I WANT IT !” and that I’d be there at 8am. When I got there Thanksgiving day he told me he had 5 or 6 other calls after mine, each one saying they could be there right away, but he kept his word to me and waited till morning for me to show up.

Plus I got it for a GOOD PRICE!

I forgot…. last summer I found a 113 Craftsman TS on CL. I called the guy and later that day went to his house to take a look. Old, but not in terribe shape ‘cept the motor was shot. Got the TS for $25.00. Shot motor so I put a “looking for” add up on CL for a 1 or more hp motor. Guy contacted me a week or so later and said he had a motor. Six mile drive to take a look, and the motor looked like new. I gave the guy $45.00 for the motor. So now I have the Craftsman TS up and running nicely for $70.00. Ok, maybe not a killer deal but where ya gonna get a good operable TS for $70.00? :o)

Its a great idea but not sure it would take off. I dont think the OP of the “gone nuts” thread had any idea what he was creating.

I’ve bought a lot of things off of craiglist.
However, the best thing I ever bought was a lathe.
It isn’t because it was a great lathe, but because I met a guy who introduced me to a couple of great friends and Lumberjocks.

Tucson CL – this is a steal and if I wasn’t already set I’d buy it myself:

Slow-speed grinder and complete wolverine sharpening setup to include the skew holder and the varigrind for $95 total.

When I see a steal of a deal, I put in my email the plea, “call me first” this really works, somehow I usually get first pick on the good stuff.
