Fixing misplaced dowel hole

So i had a whoopsie on my plane, forgot to account for the radius of the dowel, drilled 3/16 to close to my wedge.

My fix was to route a 1/2” dado about 2 1/2” long and fill it with an ebony plug. The other benefit i saw in this, i can then insert a brass pin, which will be held by this plug.

Thoughts? How might you fix this? Obviously I could just leave the dowel showing, but im too much of a perfectionist to sit there and look at it heh.
