I just visited Lumberjocks’ sister sites, Homerefurbers and Gardentenders and they’ve been hit by spam campaigns. Then I went to Lumberjocks and NOTHING! I wonder, do these two sites have differenet spam-fighting techniques from Lumberjocks or are they simply checked less, and therefore worked-on less, by the spam-fighting units due to lower site traffic? Is there a way of “unifying” the spam-fighting techniques and/or efforts or would that make Lumberjocks more vulnerable?

Thanks.

LJ was getting hit very hard by the spammers and enough of us raised a stink about it that the powers-that-be took some sort of action to stop or hide them:

I guess the other sites didn’t complain enough.

well, the real answer is ….
we have been implementing strategies all along re: spam, here at LumberJocks.com, and although we are currently dealing with the video issue as a result, with the culmination of strategies, I think we have the spam issue taken care of at the moment.

As for the other sites, there is some glitch buried deep in the server that makes moderating tricky/complicated and, well, a pain in the you-know-what. It is horrible, it is frustrating, it is embarrassing, but sadly, it is there, taunting us.

On a very semi-related note, and I apologize for hijacking this thread, I am currently unable to post in any of the forums. When I try I am told that my first post must be reviewed and approved before I can make additional postings. I posted two-ish days ago – how long can I expect that process to take?

I noticed that in the Home Refurbers and Garden Tenders, the spammers have now invaded by posting their first post in the “Projects” section. Used to be they would post in the forums, or in their own profile. Now, the Latest Projects tab has first priority, dunno how they ever figured out how to do that!! All of the first ten projects are spammy.

Agree with PK! When the 3 “Daily Top Projects” on the other 2 Sites are all SPAM something is Very WRONG
