Topic tags/keywords: question

I am currently building out a restaurant, and the owner wants the bar top to be cypress. I am having some 1×8’s milled T&G, the bar will be 3 of these boards wide ~21”. Any ideas about finishes? The owner wants to stain it. I was thinking about 2-part water-based poly [used on floors] for durability. does/can the grain need to be filled first? I wonder about the natural oils in the wood, and how that might effect things. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!! Tacodan

I do a lot of Cypress counter tops, other woods, and wood signs. I use Waterlox only and you can mix stain with it. Pricey near a $100 a gallon and found in most building supply stores.
