I bought a Phenolic Zero Clearance Insert for my Grizzly G0691 Table Saw from them shortly after I bought the saw in 2008. Although the ZCI works, it was milled wrong. I can’t raise the blade all the way up because the cutout for the quick release riving knife that this saw has, is in the wrong location. Has anyone else purchased one of these Phenolic inserts and discovered the same problem? As you can see in the picture, the cutout is pretty much in the center of the insert and it should be where I drew the lines.

Well, it’s probably too late to get a swap for it, but it’s worth a call or email to Grizzly to find out.

I make my own inserts with 1/2” mdf and I’ve noticed that the insert will lift a little if I raise the blade all the way, but I don’t normally run it that high, of course. To make the cut through it, I hold a new insert down and raise the blade through it. I then line up the insert over a 1/8” bit in my router table to run the slot farther back for the riving knife. Sounds like my next step needs to be making a pattern to rout a notch to provide clearance for the riving knife base.

I did email Grizzly on the 13th and received a very nice and courteous reply this morning. They have made modifications to the ZCI for the G0690 and G0691, making a cutout for the riving knife mechanism. I will be purchasing one to replace the one I have. They should however replace the picture they have on their website to show the new version.
