Ahoy -

I think I’m going to have a hard time wresting this from anyone’s workshop for a reasonable price, but I figure it wouldn’t hurt to try :)

Thanks Waho – Don doesn’t appear to have a Stanley #65, but he does have a lot of other nice planes for sale..

Yes, #65 are pretty hard to find. I’ve only found one in the wild, and you can’t have it :-)

Send Dave a PM, he may have one.

If you look here you may find one of the other resellers has one. Ebay would be another option.

Thanks Don!

Found a few interesting things..

  • Roseantiquetools is a bit pricey – but fun to window shop :)
  • There is a Craftsman version of the #65 called the 3732 that I found a few of on ebay. I may pick up one if I can get it for ~$25
  • Perhaps a good buy link to add to your page Don: http://www.brasscityrecords.com/toolworks/new%20tools.html (can’t speak to their service, never bought from them)

That craftsman will work just as well.

The #65 is my favorite block plane (and I have 2 LNs). Mine has a hock blade in it. Keep up the hunt it is worth the effort.

I added brasscityrecords. I can’t believe I didn’t have Walt on there. I need to get out to his shop one of these days.

+1 for Walt at Brass City. Walt’s a great guy and a lot of fun to talk with about old tools or rock ‘n roll music.

I have the Crafstman 3732. A nice plane. I believe it was made by Stanley, right? It’s basically a clone.

BTW. That one on eBay doesn’t look too bad. Probably just needs a little spit and polish.

I love my 3732. Although I did tear the mouth out a little, some careful filing fixed it. I read some place that if there is a D stamped under the number it came from MF for sears.

I got into a bidding war with 7 other bidders for a mint SW #18 on E bay the other day.

Lost the bid at the last second for 78.00. I was so bummed! I followed it for two weeks! .... Agh!

If you are in the market for a #65 as a collector, I was told to look for the one with #65 on the side and Stanley written on the adjustment knob.

609 – that’s a decent looking skew plane…one of my favorites. They sure get a good buck these days.

I should have a nice #65 listed in about a week.
