Topic tags/keywords: wood identification wood id log question

I just came across a large log, but I’m trying to ID the wood. Seems very green still.

Any ideas? I’ve got no info on it. Found it by the side of the road.

I don’t have a clue but I’m curious to see what others have to say.

It’s hard to say what it is since you just show the end grain and I can’t figure end grain, but I think it looks like black cherry.

The heartwood does look a lot like cherry, from the color.

the bark doesn’t look like cherry, or at least not the cherry I know. A better picture of the bark would help. to.
