Topic tags/keywords: cherry walnut oak poplar

So I got a good deal at an estate auction yesterday: all the lumber in the picture for $3. Nice boards, I keep fantasizing on what I’m going to build with them. Walnut, a bunch of red oak and poplar, and what I think is cherry. I’ll post my other findings later today
Can anyone reply on whether or not the other photos are cherry? I posted with flash and without because of the color difference. Thanks :)

Let me be the first to say, in the fine LJ tradition of honoring unbelievable deals. YOU SUCK!!!!!

Great pick up!

Lucky snag at an auction. I wasn’t going to bid on it because we drove our car and it was already packed with my other goodies. Then… NOBODY bid on it. Nobody. The auctioneer was going to pass it up so it was going to get tossed. I had to. We’re in an apartment, otherwise I would have gotten a radial arm saw, a nice lathe, and a jointer/planer. Those went for $25 each.

They look look like native cherry to me. I’ve worked with it quite a bit, got a lot from a friend. You’ll like working with it just sharpen your plane and chisels.

Okay, the ‘You suck!’ badge of honor seems insufficient here.
YOU REALLY SUCK!

(Great score!)

You definitely suck. I’m guessing your wife isn’t equally ecstatic about having the boards piled in your living room, but now you have some great stuff to work with. Make her something nice first.

Lol, good point Tim. I have it nice and organized in the corner out of the way now. I think it’s acceptable for her. But all the other stuff I got… I better get organized in a hurry.

No, but I did have my brother-in-law come help me with his truck. My wife and I just drove our Pontiac G6 so we definitely did not have the room.

There are deals to be had. I stood at an auction and watched a Stanley/Bailey #5 (I think) and some unknown #4 plane sell for $5 …..for the pair. Never raised a finger. Now I am thinking what did you DO!!!
