Does anyone have some feedback regarding finishing reclaimed timbers. We have 50+ reclaimed timbers in our home. Although many of our friends out west leave them bare we are located in a humid/wet area in the East and the timbers are losing their color and need to be sealed. Also, the interior timbers look dull and could be more attractive. As they are the highlighted feature of the home, we need to get them treated. I am looking for exterior and interior recommendations from people with experience working with Douglas Fir. A painter started to treat the exterior timber with an oily sealant which turned the timber an unsightly bright orange. We then had to strip the timber. That particular timber has no color and will need to be tinted before it is sealed. Any advice?
