Hello, everyone!

Once again, I found a possible “steal” on craigslist… a Shopsmith 12” Pro Planer. I contacted the seller, and it is in running condition, but from the picture it is quite rusty. I had her verify that it not only runs, but also to verify the model number – M5082.

What should I pay for a machine like this (new ones apparently sell for $1,000), and would you guys suggest pulling the trigger on this? It’s a bit of a drive, but I figured that if I get it for a good deal and check that the innards are all intact and all the rust is indeed just on the surface, then it might be worth it.

She is asking around $80 for it – I don’t think she knows what she has, and I want to be honest..

Thoughts? Thanks guys!

They are supposed to be good units. If the variable
speed feed motor doesn’t work though it could be
costly to replace.

Thank you for your response! I am meeting the buyer tomorrow, and she is letting me run some wood through it to test it out.

Do you have any recommendations as to what to look out for (aside from the motors sounding strong)?

Thanks guys!
