I am making a shower bench for a friend out of Mangaris. It is coming along nicely. I am using stainless steel screws and Titebond III adhesive. I have been reading up trying to decide whether to apply a coating, use a penetrating oil, and leave the bench unfinished for this shower use. Right now I am leaning towards leaving it unfinished.

I am wondering what kind of feedback I can get from my friends here on lumberjocks.com.

Thanks,

Lar

I’d throw a coat of oil on it. Belt and suspenders, and unlike poly you can always just dry it out and throw more oil over it if you decide you need more.

Will it’s environment have any effect on it’s appearance if left unfinished? If yes, then I’d oil it, if no, then I’d oil it just in case. But ultimately, it’s up to you.
