Topic tags/keywords: question router

Hi there.
I have a couple of questions about router bits.
My router is Elu Mof 96e.
A guy in a toolstore tryed to convince me that it’s impossible to route with a bit wider than 25mm./ 1” bits and long shaft. I couldn’t belive my ears. Obviously he tried to sell me an 1400w, Festool router for 673€…
How is it. Was he on the right track?

The second question considers making of window frames and the joints. They are like
m/t but with the side open. They are 40mm. wide or deep and 11-12mm. thick.
Can suchs joints be made with a disk shaped bit with a router with 12mm. collet?

(I was vey tired when first posted this but now after editing it it looks like it should have in the first place.)
.

What’s the collet size on your router?

In N. America we can get 12mm collets for bits with
12mm shanks and these bits are a lot stiffer than
bits with 6mm or 8mm shanks common in Europe.

The collet size is 8mm. I’m building a stall to my two horses and I have to make pocket holes in the vertical corner posts. What might be the right diameter when the recuired dept is 50mm/2”? For the moment I have to go with the Elu but I will purchase a bigger router propably in the near future.
