I find myself in a quandary. I was in the shop this morning and realized I am pretty fortunate. I have two very worth while, and challenging projects waiting for me to begin. Just not sure which to start because neither is essential.

I can either begin building the dining table using the slabs and white oak, or I can start rehabbing the planes that have been in my way for a couple years.

The local middle school was decommissioning their wood shop because it was “too expensive to update it” then spent three times that amount to put in a computer lab. But I digress. I bought two pallets for a total of 35 dollars and these were scatters through both. Considering I found a 300 dollar helium argon laser new in the box I figure I got these for free.

I bought the walnut slabs and white oak this summer and got my self in some hot water. The oak was going to be for a rocker. Once I finished the demon steel and wood coffee table the wife informed me I was not allowed to bring something that heavy into the house again. So now the table will be walnut and white oak. I am feeling pretty fortunate today

Why not just take one of the planes that looks like an easy rehab, tune it up then get cracking on the table? Those slabs are too nice to just be sitting there!

Had not thought of that. You can’t see it in the picture but the crotch grain is real funky. I am not proficient enough with a plane yet to not tear the crap out of it. That’s what I am worried about.
