I am looking for a computer program that is free that I can print off a pattern to a size that I want. Like I enter 5 inches by 7 inches and it prints the pattern off at that size. I know most of you are laughing now but I have been fooling around with this damn computer all day now. Time for a beer.

In the print dialogue box, there should be controls for the size or scale you want to print at -

• 100%

• Fit to page

• Custom

You should be able to enter a percentage into the box next to custom.

If you measure the size it’s printing at and work out the percentage of the size you want it to print at, enter the percentage in the custom box and print it off.

Depending on what the image is, you might be able to ‘place’ it into a word processing program and scale it to the size you want, then print it off at 100%.

Also, in your word processing or drawing program you should be able to specify how many pages across and down you want. Paste in a picture and stretch it across and down a bunch of page…. say for example 2 across and 2 down, and print it. After you cut off the margins you have a pattern that is larger than a sheet of paper for tracing onto wood. Not what you wanted to know but another trick.

Renners above has the answer to your question.

Well, when I pull up the pattern (which is a zip file and jpeg image) it brings it up in something called a “Windows picture and fax viewer”. From there the only print options are 5×7, 4×6, wallets, like picture standard sizes. And when I try to print in any of those sizes the image is all blurred. The is no print preview box or any custom printing option. Someone please help me before I throw this damn machine in the dumpster!

You might try Picasa, a free image editing program. I have never used it but reviews are good.

Here is another thought for you…if the image you want to print is a small file, and you scale it up, it may very well become pixelated and be hard to tell what it is. Is that the problem?

Good luck.

You might look into Matthias Wandel’s BigPrint program ( ) ... might be just the ticket.
