Topic tags/keywords: dust collection parallel dust collection dust collector

I’ve read a few comments on here regarding parallel dust collectors – 2 HF systems hooked together. I was wondering if anyone could provide some pictures, references, other forums, etc where this was executed successfully. I have a jet system with a shopmade separator and I’m considering buying a harbor freight to improve collection. I’m open to any suggestions, questions, or comments. Thanks, Buck.

I don’t know about dual collectors in line, but I did see a really great dual separator set up. It uses a cyclone type separator, then goes into a similar one directly after with water in the bucket to collect all the fines. I’m in the process of reworking my shop and dust collection is the next step. I will be using this idea soon. Here is a link to the video… Twin cyclones pre filter for shop vac

Stumpy did that on his wooden cyclone. The caution was that one blower could easily overload the other (I think it was the second in line) causing the motor to burn out. Nubs put amp meters on both his (they were both HF blowers) to measure the load. My suggestion would be to pass on your plan, and go straight to a DC that will do it by itself. I now a lot of folks have a problem with the cost of DC; but I see it as important in a shop as the tools that actually do something to the wood. Having a dual in line blower set up is going to cost you in terms of footprint and probably other inconveniences, and still isn’t going to be as effective as a proper single unit. BTW, Stumpy quoted Bill Pentz as saying someone tried with that 2 Jet DC’s and burned one out (IIRC).
