I got a request from a potential client for a rocking chair made from Mesquite. The problem is that I live in central Pennsylvania and it is not very common. Does anyone know of a place where I can source 8/4 mesquite in Pennsylvania or surrounding states?

Mesquite grows in the Sonoran Basin – mainly Central and Southern Arizona, but also parts of New Mexico, Texas and Northern Mexico.

There is a company that has a lock on about 60% of the harvestable supply, (all on private property in AZ), but, I don’t know the contact information. (Heard about it in passing, but didn’t take notes—sorry)

8/4 is going to be tough to get good lumber (read “expensive”) since the tree is a desert scrub tree that rarely gets very large in diameter.

It shouldn’t be too tough to google this and find out who the main supplier of it is. You could also contact your local hardwood supplier since they have to buy from the same sources.

This guy on CL looks like he’s got Mesquite to spare.
