Looking at a Vega 1553 48” bed that comes with a duplicater, 6 and 8” faceplates, 2 S stlye 1 straight tool rests, woodcut brand bowl cutter, spindle steady rest, about a dozen cutting tools, and a few bowl blanks.

Questions: Age-serial # 1492?, doesn’t have a threaded spindle but excepts tapered, 1 hp motor 2 speeds, currently wired for 110- can I convert to 220?

Vega’s website shows this lathe to be 4500$ with 2hp and 1 1/4×8 tpi spindle

I can purchase for 1500$. It appears to be nearly unused and solid. Am I missing something or is this a steal?

Any info/advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a steal to me. Wish I could stumble on something like this.

depending on the brand of turning tools , you might spend $1500 on those alone …I say grab it and run !!!
There should be a plate on the motor that tells you if it can be run on 220v or not .

My biggest concern is the spindle. I never heard of a lathe without a threaded spindle. I think I’ll have a closer look.

My JET has both a Morse taper and a threaded spindle as one .
