I recalled Porter Cable's Portable Oscillating Spindle Sander recently, as I had an occasion for just such a tool.

I tried researching it, but it seems they don’t make them anymore?

Anyone know of another brand that makes those? I couldn’t find anything.

I guess there is enough overlap between this tool and a belt sander, they must not have sold many.

The sander I wanted to try was the Delta 7” bench ROS. Sadly, it is out of production as well.

I have that sander and haven’t seen it in the stores lately. I think it’s model 121. It works well on big pieces. You might be able to find a used sander on ebay or a leftover sander in a tool store.

I just spent an hour doing a search. Looks like you are going to have to find a used one. Nothing even close that I could find

I called a local store and they haven’t had any in probably 6 years. He said the tool had a lot if interest after they stopped making them.

I’ve always wanted one, didn’t know they stopped making them. Maybe I should start shopping ebay and get my hands on one before they go totally extinct.

That and a Versa Plane.

Why they started making Porta Planes again, instead of Versa Planes, is beyond me.

I had one and used it in a base plate that fit into my router table more than I used it by hand. I sold it to get a fixed machine as I liked the idea of no small belts or noisy universal motors. I can’t remember running into a situation where it proved to be more useful than a bench unit.

I used mine on a large curved table top.
