My sympathies. A lot of hassles in a move…..especially with a shop full of tools.
BTDT, never again. We’ll be here for the duration.

Look at the bright side. You have a trailer and a place to go to.
VA is a beautiful state. How would you like to be moving to Detroit?

I started my last move with a 35 yard dumpster. Made packing up easier.

Eleven years ago when my wife and I moved from Memphis to Arkansas, I had a moving van line to come and pack us up…...I told them to bring 2 of the biggest they had…...One was for the household crap we had, and one for my woodshop equipment…..Both were so full, they were afraid to open the doors for fear of stuff falling out…..lol…...I think my woodshop van was fuller than the other one…...

Been there, done that! Just did the big move ourselves (June 1). I THOUGHT we’d get by with a 26 footer and a car carrier and do it in one trip. SILLY ME!

By the time it was all said and done, It took TWO 26 footers! First trip was about 3/4 of my shop (packed floor to ceiling and fully the entire length of the truck) and pulled the car carrier with my ‘93 Accord on it (which we also filled the front and back seat). Had the wife pull my 5X10 flat bed trailer with my GoldWing on it and a bunch of my yard tools (shovels, rakes, etc) with her Ranger pickup.

SECOND TRIP was another 26’ U-Haul with the rest of my shop and all of the house, pulling my 5X10 trailer with my rider mower, pressure washer and air compressor on it also.

Oh yeah… the trip “usually” takes us about 8 – 9 hours by car but these two U-Haul nightmares took about 11.5 hours each, because both trucks were pretty much beat. Neither of them could maintain a steady speed of 65 even on flat level runs. As we passed thru the hilly areas I’d slow to about 18mph with it floored~

NEVER AGAIN~

Oh yea…...forgot to mention that my wife was driving our Suburban, which was loaded to the gills with more crap, and I was following her in my truck pulling my 22’ Ranger bass boat, which also had more crap in it.
It’s only about a 4 hour drive from M to Ar., so wasn’t too bad….That was on a Saturday, and the moving vans weren’t coming till the following Monday…..We too had to sleep on air mattress…....Beats sleeping on a pallet on the floor anyday…....

I moved from Southern California to Casper, Wyoming for a one-way total of 1068 miles. I loved it in Wyoming.
Unfortunately, I had to move back to California 8 months later.
That was a long drive.

I’ll be a couple of hours away (eastern VA). I only know a few people up there, but I know you’ll like it. Its really beautiful up there. You’ll be fairly close to Roanoke so you’ll never run out of things to do (if you’re in to that). Plus….. if you like football there’s Va. Tech and if you don’t like football, you’ll have UVA up the road in Charlottesville. (Just kidding Cavalier fans – - both of you).
