I’m looking to share my Woodgears Bandsaw V2.0 plans (16” bandsaw) with someone who would be willing to share either the Screw Advance Box Jig plans, or Pantarouter plans. Or to be honest, any of his plans. They are so well thought out, and great to read.

As per Matthias’ guide, we CAN share with friends, just not resell them.

If you’re interested in sharing, drop me a PM! =)

Thanks!

I don’t want to sound like a smart ass or rude, but if you appreciate and respect the efforts of Matthias to create these plans don’t you think it undercuts his ability to get paid for his work to share his plans, freely or otherwise, with random contacts on a web site.

He was very generous to allow purchasers of his plans to share with friends, but I don’t think he meant everyone within your network of contacts. I could be wrong, but I like to know his opinion on this first.

Yea well Matthias doesn’t see it your way. I emailed him and pointed to this thread and here’s his response:

Definitely not.
I allow shaing the plans with somebody you know, but definitely not over the internet.

Here’s the site rules, feel free to read them – they’re free.

Okay I’ll make 2 points here.

1. Let’s say you write a woodworking book, or whatever it is you do, and it’s pretty good. So good, in fact, that you charge some money for it. Like most books. Then, someone comes along and scans every page of your book and begins uploading it to a website (like this one). Wouldn’t you feel cheated? I know most people who are into woodworking would.

2. You are probably going to be spending at least, what, $200-$300 to make Matthias’ bandsaw (if you do it right, with good materials, a decent motor, blade guards, and whatever else Matthias has you putting into it you’ll probably spend more than that). Is $20 such a sum to you that you’re willing to try to cheat your way out of it? You are in the wrong hobby my friend. Just factor it into the cost of the machine.

Because Matthias is such a good guy, I hope for his sake you don’t find the plans anywhere.

Gannicus, from my point of view JustJoe is the adult in this post…you’re the richard. Matthias asked you not to share over the internet and you seem to think it’s ok to go against his wishes.

MrFid, fortunately, I’ve been down this road before. I authored a design once for a mechanized hinge system for iron man replica helmets. It was my design, and I made money off of it. I sold the hinges, but I also freely provided the knowledge for users to make their own.

See, on the internet, I believe that 1’s and 0’s shouldn’t cost a thing. I CHOSE to give Matthias money for his plans, even though I already had them. Because like you said, he’s a cool dude. However generally speaking, I don’t agree with the idea of paying for non-tangible things.

But that’s something for a different debate entirely I think.
Given the number of PM’s I’ve received, I’d imagine I’m not the only one who shares this philosophy.

Cheers! =D

Gannicus, the PM’s you received are from other thieves that do not want to out themselves by posting to this thread.

I won’t be sharing with you.

It’s not like I put the plans up on my seedbox. LOL

I partly agree. The 0’s should be free, but any person with half a sense of honesty would never steal a 1.

I forgot that laws regarding online piracy care what your beliefs are.

I’ve gotten so much free information from Matthias’ awesome site that I would never begrudge him a few bucks for a set of plans.

I know this post isn’t going to change your mind, but all I’m saying is that if Matthias gets burned out and stops posting videos and making plans, well, that would suck for all of us. So treat the guy with a little respect. At least don’t post topics like this on a public forum.

So far I’m just a rhombus – I hope to become a square when I grow up.
