Topic tags/keywords: tv stand walnut and maple

I am planning a tv stand. Pretty simple design made of walnut and some maple.

I am basically new to woodworking and need some advise with this project.

I have walnut planed to .75” and am going to get some maple. I want to make the top surface of the stand out of pieces of this joined together. I figure it will be 40” x 20” total. I want to use 3 pieces of walnut 40” x 5” and 2 pieces of maple 40” x 2.5”. These pieces add together to 40” x 20”.

I need advise on the best way to join these pieces together. I do not have a biscuit joiner. I do have a simple dowel jig. I do have glue. I do have some clamps and need more, they are on my list.

Let me know what you all think and your 2 cents.

Thanks in advance

well as long as you get your clamps good and tight, you really don’t have to dowel the pieces together, edge glue joints are fairly strong, you may need to worry about wood movement but that’s simple enough to deal with.
