I was wondering if anyone had any advice on using a felt wheel as the final step in sharpeing the blades on my handplanes. I think I’ve done “so-so” sharpening most of my blades with the scary sharp method, but more practice will certainly help. Until the next time I need to sharpen again, I saw a felt wheel for sale at HD for about $6. It will fit my Ryobi grinding wheel. I bought a spiral sewn (?) wheel and some compound ($4) that it says will work on steel. I was thinking for $10, maybe this would help me get an even sharper razor edge on my smooth planes. Does anyone think this was a good buy? If this could work, how do I actually use these items? I’ve never seen these things in action so I can only go from what I’ve read (which isn’t much). Any advice would be appreciated. |
