Topic tags/keywords: wooden screens

I want to replace the alum screens on my 1921 house with wooden screens. Any tips on techniques, materials, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Or maybe you can point me to a good DIY site on this subject.

Are you speaking of screen material made of wood? Like oriental lace like carved room divider panels. I have never seen or heard of these being used in a door. I would doubt they would stand the motion and impact.

Or, maybe I’m off base here. You never actually said screen door. What screens are you speaking of?

Wooden frames to replace aluminum frames for window screens. Sorry if I was unclear. I don’t want to replace the screening material, just the frames. Just looking for any tips.

Maybe I’m still unclear. I want to make some wooden window screens for my house. Any tips on techniques and materials would be greatly appreciated. Don’t know if i’m gonna paint them yet or not. I live in Southern California so they have to hold up under rain and heat. Thanks.

This Old House magazine did some articles on the subject, although I think they might have focused on just repair of the wooden screens, they did do a couple on making wooden screen doors so there may be some info there if you can find an index or back issues on the internet.
Fine Homebuilding may have done an article, but being the pretentious b@st@rds they are, anything from the last 10 years or so would probably focus on auminum or vinyl or titanium window screens.

Another good magazine that might have covered it would be Old House Journal.

Googling of course will bring up all sorts of stuff if you keep playing with the search words. Here’s something:
