Is it safe to put a large mortiser (grizzly g0448) on a mobile base? I bolt down my current bench top mortiser to keep it from tipping. If not, has anyone built a mobile base with outrigger extensions like on a crane?

Sure. The machine is top heavy though so put weight in
the base.

I have a Powermatic that’s similar. It does not tilt though,
so my experience with having it on a mobile base is
with the weight centered.

If you’re planning on using wood for your mobile base, here are a couple of examples which could be modified to extend the casters further out from the mortiser (Replies 12 and 14).
