All of a sudden I’m getting the double underlined pop up adds in the text areas of posts and comments etc. ...... when I’m signed in.
I’ve always known they were there when you weren’t signed in but I’ve always had them disappear when I signed in. Now I’m signed in and there they are, Worse than that the first one that popped up on me was the infamous “Ted’s Woodworking”.

I’m on a new laptop with Windows 8 with which I am not yet very familiar and I’m wondering if that may be where the problem lies. My pop-up blockers are on and set at high so that’s not it.
Anyone else noticing this?
Any ideas on how to boot Ted off of my screen?

I’m NOT getting any POP-UPs on this LJ site.

I’m using the Opera Browser on Windows XP, and I have POP-UPs blocked.

I don’t think I have ever seen a pop-up on this site… ever… (shhhhhh )

Good luck…

It seems we experienced both. It is somewhat auto detect system of word matching when you need help on the word but the difference on this internet… they match the word and link it immediately to the ads. The last time, I did not bother but when I posted my blog, the link were gone.
Hope this should stop. I think this is done by those providers and ads control for the internet.
Thanks for the info.

Hey Paul,
I have my own homebuilt blocker that replaces the Hosts file. I am using Windows 8 and have never gotten a pop up.

Are you using Explorer? The one you launch from the tile screen is a different version than the one you launch from the Classic screen – try them both. You can run a different browser but I don’t know of one that will allow pinch-and-zoom which is the whole cool thing about Win 8.

I’m also on a Mac with pop-ups blocked. Don’t seem to be getting any. Hate ‘em!

I use the Google Chrome browser. I installed Adblock Plus which is a free add-on that operates within Chrome. I don’t see pop ups or sidebar ads.

My son the computer wizard was able to rid me of them.
I’d love to tell you how he did it, but he is better on computers then I am in woodworking.
Good luck.

I only get them when I am not signed in. Using a PC and Google Chrome browser. Hopefully it gets sorted out… I know how annoying those are!

Yes Debbie, I am signed in. That’s what makes it a problem.
I suspected that it was in my new hardware/software package and from the comments here and a couple of emails I’ve received, I guess I was right. I bought it from a local company with a great service department so I think I’ll just take it in and have them fix it for me.
Thanks all for the help.

Chrome or Firefox + AdBlock Plus + Do Not Track Me. No pop ups. No ads of any kind.
