Topic tags/keywords: question

I always get an e-mail if a “buddy” of mine posts.I also get them when I start a thread such as this right now. But I was just looking at my own stuff and noticed I have received comments (recently) on a couple of projects that were posted quite awhile ago that I never received via e-mail. I don’t know if they were given due to roll the dice or if these fine folk were just happening to look at my projects. Do we not get a roll the dice comment? or do we not receive comments if it is no longer posted in the 15 project section. Just wondering. I feel bad since I never acknowledged.

Allison,

Good question. I’ve seen virtual conversations between folks on a project and wondered how they knew when someone was posting a question on their project. I think the “shuffle” option brings up projects, etc. that were posted a long time ago, but don’t know if the original poster is notified. Thanks for bringing this up.

Martin
I still want the ability to tag a post and receive update notification. If I post to a project (forum or bog) that I didn’t create I may want to know when updates are posted. It would be great if I could tag that post for any new updates. Even if I didn’t receive emails I could check when I logged in, of course I would rather have an email update but that is not a requirement :)

If you go to your own home page and look under your icon or photo on the left, you will see “Edit Email Notifications” below. Click on that, and you will have the option to select from many different situations when you want to be emailed or not.

If you check off to be notified when a comment is posted on your project, you should receive all commentrs, no matter how old the project is. I frequently get emails of comments on old projects that must have come up on “roll the dice”.

All you have to do is to the “Pulse” and change the “Started by” option to “ME”. That will show you all the comments people have posted on your entries.

I’m with Martin and I’m not sure that what he (and I, and a few others – see thread in coffee lounge) wants can be done.
It’s all about this I did not start.
For example – I’ve just posted a message to this thread, and I’m interested in any subsequent posts to this thread (it may be an answer :-)). So what I want to do is subscribe to this thread, and receive an email saying “new comment posted on a thread you were watching”, rather than have to check this thread (and several others I’m interested in) manually – it’s a job for the computer!

Martin, I think Snowdog & Knickknack have good ideas. The other search/alert facilities are great but there could be an improvement.

KnickKnack, what you and Snowdog want should be easy for Martin to do. We already have the option to add a topic to our favorites. All Martin needs to do is add an item to email notification options such as “Send email when comments are posted on my favorites.”

That way, if you see a topic you want to follow, just add it to your favorites and you’ll automatically get an email when new comments are posted.

It would be a lot easier than going back to your home page and looking back over your activity. Much more user friendly than RSS (really simple syndication) feeds.

To Knick Knack, I never even thought of it that way, I was simply talking about acknowledging those that acknowledged me. But my gosh, do I ever agree with you. I would love to have something like that. I remember a post about Pay Pal that I commented on a very long time ago, and I always wanted to keep up with the rest of it on a curiosity level and to continue to see what was said , and I lost contact with it. I do not remember who started it and I do not remember the name of it. I realize I could probably search for it, something I just found out I could even do here. But how wonderful that would be to keep up with these threads through our own e-mail. Some like Odies dogs and Odies president one is just too long for us to try to keep up with anymore. I myself started a thread about 6 word sentences and I was having so much fun with it and enjoyed all the comments, but even I the writer lost interest only due to the fact it was taking to long. I think you are really on to something here. It sure would be nice. Thanks for replying,
And thank you all for replying.
PEACE!!!

Yes Allison, I think we need a follow up button. Favourites is not quite the thing for this, they are for chasing up techniques, designs, how to’s etc.
