Topic tags/keywords: drying lumber south carolina kiln

My name is George and I am wondering if there is a market in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina to dry lumber for local woodworkers? I have a solar dry kiln that holds 4,000 board feet of lumber that was constructed about 17 years ago. The kiln has not been used for many years and it’s in need of repair. I am thinking about repairing the kiln if there is a demand for this service. I would like to hear from the local woodworkers.

4,000 board feet, that is a lot of drying!

I live in the Florence area and I’ve been very frustrated with the lack of wood suppliers here. I can’t supply you with wood, but if you start to sell some, let me know. There’s a mill in Pamplico, I think the name is White Mill or something like that. They mill a lot of cypress and some white oak. You can get green white oak 8/4×8” for $1 a board foot. But its green and I don’t have a place to dry it. Or you can get what they’ve “air-dried”, which means laid outside in the sun and rain for a year so it can split all to shreds and turn grey. I’ve thought about building something just to properly air dry their wood.
