I saw this posting on craigslist:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/mat/3942887236.html

and it was about 2 miles from my office, so I headed over there shirt, tie and all. I was only able to grab one log that was big enough to worry about, but still small enough I could manage it (barely)

The log is probably about 5’ long and 12” or so diameter, agood 10” of heartwood, and as straight as I’ve seen. The large logs you see in the picture are probably between 18-24” but there was no way I could wrestle those into the Prius. Now to figure out what to put on the edges until i can try my hand at resaw in a couple weeks. And if you’re in the Twin Cities area, there is still plenty of logs laying on the ground.

Someone must have cleaned them up, the listing is gone now.

The real problem (for me anyway) after resawing is having enough room to stack and sticker and let it dry for a year or two.

Very, very cool.

FWIW, I used some sorta old Bullseye shellac to seal some apricot tree branches I’m planning on turning. No checking, and I didn’t care that it was a little gummy for a while.
