Topic tags/keywords: question cedar finishing outdoor

One more time I am asking for advice.
I am building the patio table found in Woodsmith #75 I am making it out of red cedar. It will be put inside during the winter, I live in Canada. Can be hot and humid during the spring and the summer.

I have a list of interrogations:

- How would you protect the table from the elements. I was thinking to use some marine varnish. (will investigate more). How many coats would you use. (I was thinking 2)

- Can I oil the wood before to apply the varnish (or before others recommendation). I want to get the color of the cedar to get out.
Which kind of oil would you use if it’s recommended to to it.

- Lastly and unfortunately, I might not be able to protect it for 2 weeks, (I am leaving on Tuesday and the table is in its very early stage). Would it be OK to put it on the patio without protection for 2 weeks?

Again I am open to any advice or recommendations you might want to share.

This is what I like about this site, you learn so much.

Thank you in advance,

You are probably long since back from your trip and may have already finished the table, but how did the two weeks unprotected affect it?
