As usual last night I wasn’t able to sleep, and after doing a initial cleaning on the bottom saw I started looking at them side by side…

I’ve wanted to do something like this for a while, so here it goes…

The top saw is a Disston Challenger 5.5ppi rip, the bottom saw is a Warrented Superior 9ppi xcut…

I started to think I could use these two saws as a basis for mods, I lined them up as best I for the mods…

They were both 26” to start with now there a bit over 24” at the tooth line. I shorted the Disston at the toe and heel and the WS at the heel…

I removed the lowest bolt hole on the Disston and all on the WS…

Then I C-clamped them together to decide what would be the first step…

I started on the top keeping them both wasted drawing out the top flat line at the back a bit longer and making the waste a bit more prounced, then did the heel, then toe last, draw filing both clamped together…

I’m guessing I’ll have to get some decent bits to drill the handle holes is the WS…

I haven’t decided if I’m going to use Apple ,Walnut, or the Mahogany I already have for the handles…

I’ve decided to base them similar to my D-7 handle but just give a bit more room because its just not quite large enough for the width of my hand.

In a week or so (hopefully I post the next steps).

This is what happens when you have no life…

I based the overall shape on a handle I picked out of a bunch I bought today, there is a sharpening shop nearby me but he really doesn’t do handsaws much anymore if at all, but he lets me pic his brain…

He was going to give me all the handles for nothing but I insisted on giving him something, he said $10, there was 16 of them…

I’m not sure but I’m hoping I wont touch them again until tomorrow but that might be a lie.

I didn’t really care how the first two were working out mainly because I didn’t like the handles at all so they are on the back burner…

This time I started with two of the older Craftsman Kromedge saws 8ppi and 10ppi crosscut and a Kromedge 11ppi miter box saw…

There will be 3 (need to get a 5.5ppi rip) 20in panel saws and a pair of 12in x 3.25in below the spine backsaws…

Currently I’m going to leave the backsaws the original ppi just filled rip and xcut for now…

Changed the two handles I already had I like them better now.

Have your say...
