Took my first real stab at hand cut dovetails tonight…after I made a marker and bought a ‘real’ dovetail saw – the Veritas one. I had made a few stabs at it before with an Irwin ‘dovetail’ saw from Lowes…and that was a disaster, I just couldn’t track a straight line. So I stopped by Woodcraft and picked up the Veritas Dovetail saw…WOW, what a difference! It was so, so, so much easier to follow a line – especially making it as a first-class cut.

I know I don’t have to make a marker, but i was tired of messing with the the sliding bevel and it was a quick project. Made a nice simple one out of walnut.

Anyway, just stopping by to share success. Tomorrow night I’m gonna try some in a few scraps of walnut and if successful, I’ll post pictures.

Good equipment makes the job much easier, doesn’t it?

Post the pictures either way, “good or bad”.

I have found at woodworking shows, people only show the “successful” projects. I have talked to people/beginners that come to these shows and they have told me, “Wow, all these pieces are great, I could never do anything like that”.

They don’t realize everybody has to start somewhere.

Your first projects might be good, they might be bad, either way they are your first. Be proud of whatever you do.

+1 on the pics. Never be afraid to show your work, LJ’S is full of helpful folks with good advice. I’ve picked up a lot here.

No pictures, it didn’t happen.

We want to see it all.

Keep up the good work!
