Not sure if this is in the correct forum or not, but I was looking for some advice on how to select a trim carpenter. I’m looking for someone to install baseboard and shoe molding on a new house—stain grade. I can likely get names from local lumberyards but I really don’t know what questions to ask to be sure that they are going to do a good job. Obviously, I will want to see some of their work as well. What questions should I ask them, and what are the correct answers? Also, can anyone tell me how they go about charging? Is it hourly, by the linear foot or some other way? Is there a way to find out what the going rates are in my area? I don’t want to cheat anybody, but I also want a fair shake on price. I’m in north Mississippi.

I’d prob. talk to someone in your area that’s is building homes that you can tour and see the trim work. Ask who does their work. Many subcontract the finish work and will tell you who they use.

Have your say...
