Topic tags/keywords: mahogany gunstock finish

I have recently started making a gunstock out of mahogany. I have been trying to figure out how im going to finish it but I cant decide. I want a high gloss finish and have been looking into a rubbed oil finish but I dont know how to fill the large pores and grain. I have also heard of people spraying automotive clear coat and getting a finish that looks like the piece was dipped in glass. I have a few hvlp spray guns and moderate experience with them and I also know a few guys at local body shops that would spray this for me. This gunstock will be used often but not heavily just trips to the range and walks into the deer stand. I havent decided what kind finish I want so I am open to any suggestions. I dont mind putting in a lot of work if the finish will turn out beautiful.i would apprdciate any products and methods that I could use to finish this stock.

Grain filler, then auto clear coat.

you could start with Sealer then tru oil.

I don’t care for tru oil because I don’t like the glass like finish on my hunting rifles, but it sounds like its just what you are looking for.
