Topic tags/keywords: deal bargain craftsman cheap tools yard sale auction estate sale delta

So, I was leaving the house to go to work yesterday morning and noticed an Estate Sale down the road from my house, but did not have time to stop. I went back later just before they closed to find a workshop full of tools! Since it was the end of the first day, everything that was left would be sold for 1/2 price the second day. I went back this morning as soon as they opened. All together, I paid $350 including tax. I made out like a bandit, here is what I got….

-Craftsman 12” Lathe (Model: 113.228162)
with brand new, unused leg stand, spur chuck, 2 different face plates, 4 jaw chuck, 2 straight tool rests and S shaped tool rest.

-Delta 12” Planer (Model: 22-540)

-Craftsman Bench top Shape/Router (Model: 149.23910)

-Craftsman Radial Arm Saw (Model: 113.19771)

-Guardian Power 5 speed heavy duty Drill Press (Model: BDM-58-5S)
with vice and wood stand

-Skil Biscuit Jointer (Model: 1605)
with case

-3 Hand planes: Stanley No. 4.5, No. 4, and block plane

-4- 6’ pipe clamps

Plus a small load of random woods, including mahogany, spalted maple, and cherry.

congrats on your buys. good basic starter tools. some guys really like those monotube lathes, others don’t speak to well of them. hopefully your experience will also be positive. does it have a live or dead tailstock?

and that RAS has a bolt together column support rather than the older units with CI column supports, so it probably dates from the later 70s, given the 8 digit model number rather than the “newer” series 9 digit model numbers common to all sears tools. there is an upgrade kit available for that saw free from emerson electric. it includes a new blade guard, table supports and a new 1”thick MDF table. the info is on this website:

BTW, where’s the pics? no pics, didn’t happen.

I’ll give you $400 for it. Just think what you could do with all that profit!!

Yeah, been working on clearing room in my workshop. Here are the pics :D

Thanks for the info on the RAS, it is eligible for the recall, and $400 is surprising, I was expecting $355, lol

Estate sales rock, by far the best way to get great tools for a few reasons 1. they are older tools usually so they actually work 2. for some reason older people have more respect for their tools so they are usually in great shape and 3. $350. Awesome buy!
