I got a set of plans (12 pages total, of which the first is a pic, and the last 5 are flying tips) – - which are “terse” to say the least.

But the claim is 50 dollars in materials….it is apparently doable, but seems more than a little dangerous- no harness nor control surfaces… just weight shifting your Chanute Glider.

I have! Well sorta. I built a delta wing hang glider when I was about nine, built it out of PVC pipe, duct tape and clear plastic sheeting. I walked up up the hill behind my house and flew it back down landing on my step fathers lumber rack and my moms corvette. My first and last flight! I didn’t truly believe I would take flight and when I did it scared the crap out of me! I decided it would be safer to build a sail boat and use part of the hang glider for the sale.

A childhood friend lost his oldest brother on a thing like that.
If you are young, athletic and fearless go for it, it might be fun…. but, by-all-means be careful.

Well they have the video – so it works -
Airspeed and Dan’um indeed dangerous…. were we just more fearless back then? Or Adventurous?
Maybe just fewer lawsuits? I can’t imagine someone selling plans for 3 bucks today, and not being sued by the families of the deceased (whether it be flying or building skill related).

I just laugh at the instructions for splitting and bending the bamboo ribs over flame and such – - and who would jump in a 50 dollar glider covered in visqueen.

Flying a modern aluminum framed gliders with harnesses and even ultralight motorized gliders are even allowed for anybody with a Ben Franklin burning a hole in their swimtrunks out at Dockweiler Beach in LA.

Putting your fate in the craft you built one afternoon after a home depot trip – - that is serious Brass.
