I have a smallish deck and often have to use the patio table as a prep area when grilling (which I do 3-4 times per week). I came across this product on the interweb, and have deided to shamelessly copy it. Probably employ trex for the top.

You know my mother in law mounted her grill a similar way, on a post outside the rail w/o the base and gained even more room. That cantilever tray would work perfect for her. thanks for the idea.

I would put some sort of railing around it to keep stuff from falling off.
